Comfort is expensive — it just doesn’t show up on a balance sheet.
Michael Roca, Vice President, Media at Norwegian Cruise Line, has built his career by consistently choosing learning over ease — taking on roles that stretched him, even when they weren’t the most immediately rewarding. That long-term orientation is what’s allowed him to operate at the intersection of brand and performance, where inspiration matters most when it drives real results.
In this conversation, Michael shares why investing in growth compounds over time, how owning outcomes — not just responsibilities — shapes how you’re trusted and promoted, and why staying curious across brand, data, and business makes you more valuable in any room.
Wellth: Tell us a bit about your role, and what excites you most about it.
I lead media at Norwegian Cruise Line, focused on connecting brand and performance to drive real bookings. What excites me most is the chance to transform how media works in a category built on inspiration, making it both impactful and accountable.
Wellth: What’s one money move that helped you get here?
Investing in learning over comfort. I took roles that stretched me, even if they weren’t the easiest or most lucrative short-term, and that compounded over time.
Wellth: Who was the first person in your world you told about the new role, and what was their reaction?
My wife. She’s my sounding board for everything. She was excited but also grounded me right away. It was less about the title and more about the opportunity and what it meant for our family.
Wellth: What's one value or principle that guides you in your career?
Own the outcome. No matter the role, I’ve always tried to think like it’s my business, not just my scope.
Wellth: How do you celebrate your wins, whether big or small?
Honestly, pretty simply, time with my family. That’s what keeps everything in perspective.
Wellth: What advice would you give someone looking to follow a similar path?
Stay curious and don’t get boxed into one lane. The more you understand across brand, data, and business, the more valuable you become.
