Mimi Swain, CMO, Amazon Devices & Services
There was a day at Ring when sales on QVC kept the company alive. Mimi Swain remembers it because it taught her something about customers that data alone couldn't: sometimes the most useful thing you can do is get close enough to watch someone make the decision.
She spent more than a decade at Ring, from startup through the Amazon acquisition, eventually becoming chief commercial officer. She oversaw the company's first Super Bowl campaign and helped steer its positioning toward AI-powered safety without losing the original promise of making neighborhoods safer.
Now she runs marketing for Amazon Devices & Services — Alexa, Ring, Blink, Fire TV, Kindle and eero — with a combined growth and go-to-market organization that brings product, sales, marketing and demand generation together rather than leaving them in separate silos.
Her operating principle is what she calls "zero distance to customer." Data matters, but so do anecdotes. The person who tells you exactly why they bought something matters alongside the dashboard showing that thousands of other people did.
That's a philosophy she developed partly through her first career as a journalist, and it's now being applied at Amazon scale: listen first, then build around what you heard.
