The Wellth 30: Activism Isn't a Campaign Here

This profile is part of the Wellth 30, a curated recognition of the leaders building enduring brands, communities, and culture.

Jay Curley, Chief Marketing Officer, Ben & Jerry's

Jay Curley has spent his executive career at Ben & Jerry’s, moving from integrated marketing manager to chief marketing officer.

Ben & Jerry’s operates around a three-part mission: product, economic and social. That means social activism isn’t a campaign that marketing occasionally decides to run. It’s one of the things the company says it exists to do.

Curley’s experience stretches from advertising and social to retail, experiences and the public expression of the company’s values.

There’s a practical tension in that model: when values are part of the brand, silence can be a statement too.

Curley’s work sits inside that tension every day — where marketing stops being just about what a company sells and becomes part of what it stands for.
